Dr. Francheska Starks
Francheska D. Starks, PhD, is an Assistant Professor specializing in Cultural Studies and Children’s and Young Adult Literature at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her research seeks to amplify the perspectives of marginalized groups and utilize their insights to drive advancements in education research and teaching methodologies. Dr. Starks embarked on her professional journey as a public school educator, where she cultivated a fervent dedication to participatory action research and collaborative practices. She continues this trajectory through partnerships with Black women educators, delving into the nuanced intersections of race and gender in literacy instruction. Currently, Dr. Starks is dedicated to exploring strategies that bolster the retention of educators in public schools, with a particular emphasis on supporting their social-emotional engagement and well-being.
